Father's Day was first celebrated in 1910 in Spokane, Washington, inspired by Anna Jarvis's Mother's Day. Sonora Smart Dodd, raised by her single father, proposed the idea. It became a national holiday in the U.S. in 1972 under President Richard Nixon.
