Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970, founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson. It was inspired by the anti-war movement and aimed to bring environmental issues to the forefront. Today, Earth Day is recognized in over 190 countries and is the largest secular observance in the world.
